More Nonsense

A comment by Terry Doherty from Scrub-a-Dub-Tub after my Oh, What Nonsense! post yesterday, reminded me of some more nonsense that can be fun for kids, and involve them in reading and writing. We used to write these little stories in autograph books, or to try to puzzle others. We loved them as kids, and I think your kids might enjoy them too.

Because I know many of my readers love word games, I thought I would make this a challenge. (Although, those of you who send a lot of text messages will have an unfair advantage.) If you’d like to take up the challenge, write out a translation for any (or all) story (ies) in the comments. ! Do try them on your kids – I love to think of these jokes continuing for generations.

Here’s the first little passage, a conversation between two friends:

AB, CD Goldfish?
MNO Goldfish.
O, SAR Goldfish.

Here’s the second:

11 was a racehorse
22 was 12
1111 race

And the third tries to be Latin:

O civile, si ergo,
Fortibus es in ero.
O Nobile, Deus trux,
Vatis enim? Causan dux.

Any ideas?
