September I Can Read Carnival

Every month there's a Blog Carnival that celebrates easy readers and short chapter books. It's called the I Can Read Carnival. I love that title, because it reminds me of the wonderful, excited look on children's faces when they realize they can read. Easy readers and short chapter books are those books that support children who are just starting out on their reading journey - with restricted vocabulary, simple sentence structure, some illustrations and lots of white space.

This month, the I Can Read Carnival is here at The Book Chook! Here's how it works. If you have written a book review about an easy reader/short chapter book, or have some tips on helping emergent readers become confident readers, please leave a comment here with a link to the url of your post. I'll add your link to my post here over the course of the week the Carnival is on. According to the guidelines at Scrub-a-Dub-Tub, your post doesn't even need to be current, and can go back to 2009. If you're not sure a book actually IS an easy reader or short chapter book, Terry has a comprehensive description at Scrub-a-Dub-Tub.

I'm looking forward to learning about more great books for young readers, and getting to know more wonderful book blogs!

I have them in, artnavy, thanks!

Thanks itchingtowrite! I included the two that seem to qualify for this carnival. For the picture books, you could consider entering them in the Carnival of Children's Literature, which is also on each month. Here's the link: http://blogcarnival.com/bc/cprof_209.html

Great idea! Here are some suggestions for titles we've reviewed on Alphabet Soup's blog:

As an illustrator I've developed two illustration activities that help with reading comprehension and I'd like to share these for the September 2010 I Can Read! blog carnival.

This is so cool! I love your format, Susan. I'm going to pull one from the website instead of the blog. What Does it Mean to Be Green is a really neat little book. I love finding picture books that can "double" as stories to help new and developing readers! http://www.thereadingtub.com/displayBook.asp?id=2006

Book Chook said... 17 September, 2010

Thanks Holly!

Book Chook said... 17 September, 2010

Terry, I know exactly what you mean. Books that do double duty like that are such a boon to parents.

Thanks!

I have a post about using whisper phones in kindergarten to practice reading:

Thanks for hosting!

Oh, and format? That's my new toy, clip.ly. But it won't play nicely with Blogger so the formatting is a struggle.

Hope I'm not too late! I've got a post on a new beginning chapter series - Anna Hibiscus by Atinuke. These are quite different from anything we normally see here in the US on the beginning chapter front and I'm eager to introduce them to my library!
