Summer Reading Club (Australia)

The Summer Reading Club encourages Australian kids to head to their local library in these glorious days of summer holidays, to scare up a good book. The associated website has a painting activity for 5-7 year-olds, a find-a-word for 7-10 year-olds and a creepy crossword for kids over 10.

The program was set up to give kids 5-15 the opportunity to discover the joy of reading through games, activities, story times etc. Parents can check if their local library is participating (mine is - YAY!), and then register their kids so they can join the fun. There's also an associated wiki with lots of great ideas for teachers, parents and librarians, things like readers' theatre scripts, songs, games, and display ideas to suit the theme.

Now that summer is really here at last, don't let your kids drive YOU crazy; drive THEM to the library instead!
