Tom Gates Giveaway and Drawing Competition

Tom Gates Giveaway and Drawing Competition
by Susan Stephenson,

It thrills me to find books kids love. Not just because, as a teacher, I understand the huge importance of reading to a child’s education and future wellbeing. But also because as someone who knows the joy reading can bring, it makes me happy to know new bookworms are on the way!

The Tom Gates books have huge child appeal. According to young winner Roanan in a recent Scholastic competition, Liz Pichon has turned many kids onto reading who formerly weren’t. As soon as I opened the package containing my copies of the Tom Gates books, I could understand the instant appeal. The covers are vibrant, eye-catching, detailed. A quick flick through has a grin appearing, and then another, and even sedate Book Chooks find themselves cross-legged on the floor, intrigued.

Inside the books the appeal goes on. The stories centre around Tom’s life, and Tom is certainly someone kids will relate to. For a start, he’s a master of excuses. He doodles and comments on the heights and depths of his adventures, sounding just like the kid next door. Anyone who has a mean older sibling (aren’t they all?), an eagle-eyed teacher or an annoying classmate will nod, giggle and dive into another Tom Gates adventure. Guaranteed!

***Recipient of the Tom Gates set of books is Michelle D.***

In conjunction with this post, Scholastic is donating a set of Tom Gates’ books to one lucky The Book Chook reader with an Australian postal address. To enter the giveaway, simply send ONE email with “Tom Gates giveaway” in the subject line, to thebookchook (at) gmail (dot) com within the next week. A random and possibly sleepy chicken will choose one lucky recipient at 5.00am on July 14 eastern Australian time, and I will notify that person soon after.

The set consists of: 6 books in the Tom Gates series valued at $69.99 plus the latest book, A Tiny Bit Lucky ($15.99)

So altogether that’s:
The Brilliant World of Tom Gates
Tom Gates Excellent Excuses
Tom Gates Everything’s Amazing
Tom Gates Genius Ideas
Tom Gates Absolutely Fantastic
Tom Gates Extra Special Treats
Tom Gates A Tiny Bit Lucky

You can get more of an idea about Tom Gates’ world in the video below.

Drawing Competition:

Are You Australia’s Best Doodler? Make sure your kids and students know about the Tom Gates Crayola Competition, also limited to Australian residents. The prize is a year’s supply of Crayola products, and entries must be in by August 31 2014. I love the way children are being encouraged to create here!
